Short BIO

Maria first studied for a GDJCM in composition at Leeds Conservatoire and then for an MMus in ethnomusicology at SOAS, University of London, as well as receiving an MRes in ancient history from the University of Wales Trinity Saint David. She was a contributing editor for The New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians, has carried out fieldwork in South India, Nepal and Turkey, and has also conducted research into music in fin-de-siècle Paris. As well as lecturing in writing and research skills, she is a researcher at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David looking at hidden histories and the sensing of environments in Hellenistic Asia Minor.

Environments and identity, ethnographic walking, embodied and sensory research, boundaries and movement, memory, sound in sacred and urban geographies, ethnomusicology, social history, social anthropology, gender and sexuality
